Gorillaz Toy Signing

KID ROBOT had a toy signing at thier SoHo store. I keep asking everyone to confirm how BADASS these are. So let me set a few things straight...
- Yes, I went the Kid Robot at 6pm to buy a set of "dolls"
- No, I will not tell you how much I spent on them (it's easy enough to figure out)
- Yes, I went back at 6:30 to GET ON LINE to get all four signed
- No, I will not sell them on e-bay (even though I could make a fortune)

So this toy signing was like nothing I've ever been to before. All of humanity came together for free Red Stripe, kickass music and of course, the chance to discuss the meaning of life.

One discussion that my line-mates and I had was regarding which cultural category we now belonged to. I felt that waiting on line to get some dolls signed might make me a bit of a dork. Another person in line said that she liked to think that we were hipsters. Yet another person liked the word "geek" because he also was a member of the masses that waited on line to see Star Wars. Whatever the label, we were all sweating our asses off to get these toys signed. I can't explain what made me wait online to do this, but I (only partially joking) told everyone that this was our Woodstock. Are we all dorks because that made everyone laugh?

If anyone has any pictures of the signing or knows of all the film cameras that were there, let me know.

David Byrne

I saw David Byrne on the subway on Friday!

I sat down and right away I recognized him. I was stunned by how attractive he was. I wanted to say hi or just listen to his conversation, just to stay around him for a while. It's such a strange thing, but I was drawn to him. I really did want to ride on just to listen to him talk. Of course I couldn't hear anything he was saying even though he was sitting right across from me. I made sure not to bother him or make a big deal because I can only imagine how hard it must be for him to have some time to just ride the subway and not get mobbed. Well I would say that's the coolest sighting I've had in NY so far. What a weekend!

Trial By Fire

I have an insane story about the Gates and the "Christo Miracle" that happened to me - but I'll have to write about that later.

I have, however, posted some pictures for you're Gate-loving enjoyment.

Holy cow. This has been a crazy week. I couldn't possible tell you everything, but here's a few highlights:
  • After 7 years, I left my old job on a Friday
  • Started a new job on Monday
  • Started working full-blast at my new job right away
  • Had a call with Bangkok Tuesday night for work
  • Went to see the Gates!
I'll write more soon.

Ocular Migraines

So here it is - a bad representation of what my ocular migraines look like (graphic from http://www.eyeguys.net/ocularmigraine.html).
OK, so I went to the eye dr. today (he was super nice). Since my mom had eye problems early on I decided not to mess around and go see a real eye doctor. He checked out my eyes with the new-fangled machinery and my eyes themselves are very healthy. Great! But then as I was explaining these strange arcs of diamond-like vision distortion that I get from time to time and he brought out this card that had some drawings on it. They looked kindof like this picture. And I immediately noticed that the picture was exactly what I was trying to explain. I was glad that I wasn't crazy. It's nice to know that there is a real name for these things - although I guess they are kindof rare. But the visit couldn't have gone any better.

TransBuddha: comedy nirvana

Holy crap this site is so funny. I woke up at 5 this morning and figured that I might as well stay up and relax instead of tossing and turning and trying to get back to sleep. I found this link on the web. God it's so funny. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE click around to find Terry the Office Linebacker. I guess they are short films by Reebok. God they are funny - like milk-out-your-nose funny.
